Organize your sidebar with folders and categories
Organize your sidebar with folders and categories
As you add more programs and apps, the sidebar can get crowded. Categories group programs at the organization level, and folders group apps within a single program. Both support drag-and-drop reordering.
Categories
Categories create labeled sections in the main sidebar to group related programs together. Programs that aren’t assigned to a category appear at the top.

Add a category
- Click the + button in the top navigation bar.
- Select Category.
- In the Category Settings modal, enter a Title.
- Turn on Hide from members if this category should only be visible to admins.
- Click Add App.
The category appears below your uncategorized programs, separated by a divider.
Move programs into a category
Hover over a program name in the sidebar until the drag handle appears (six dots), then drag it into the category. You can also drag programs out of a category or between categories.
Within a category, drag programs to reorder them. Drag categories themselves to change their order relative to each other.
Edit or remove a category
Hover over the category name to reveal the controls:
- + — Opens the program creation wizard to add a new program.
- Ellipsis menu (three dots) — Choose Edit to rename the category, toggle Hide from members, or change visibility. Choose Remove to delete the category. Removing a category does not delete the programs inside it — they move back to the uncategorized section.
When Hide from members is on, an eye-slash icon appears next to the category name as a reminder.
Folders
Folders group apps inside a single program’s sidebar. Use them to keep related items together — for example, grouping weekly worksheets into a “Week 1” folder.

Add a folder
- Hover over the program name in the sidebar and click the + button that appears.
- Select Add a folder.
- In the Sidebar Folder Settings modal, set the Title & Icon — pick an icon and color, then enter a name.
- Click Add App.
The folder appears in the program’s sidebar. It starts empty with the message “No items in this folder.”
Move apps into a folder
Drag apps from the sidebar into the folder. Drag them out again to remove them. You can reorder items inside a folder and reorder the folder itself relative to other sidebar items.
Edit or remove a folder
Hover over the folder in the sidebar to reveal the ellipsis menu:
- Edit — Rename the folder or change the icon and color.
- Remove — Permanently deletes the folder. You’ll need to type the folder name to confirm. Apps inside the folder are not deleted — they return to the top level of the sidebar.
Expand and collapse
Click a folder to toggle it open or closed. The icon switches between a closed folder and an open folder. Your expand/collapse preference is remembered across sessions.
Categories work the same way — click the category name or chevron to toggle it.
Visibility controls
Categories support visibility restrictions. Folders are always visible to all space members and do not have visibility settings.
- Categories have a Hide from members toggle. When on, members no longer see the category heading in the sidebar. Programs inside the category are not hidden — they appear in the uncategorized section and remain visible to members. Admins and owners always see the category, with an eye-slash icon as a reminder.
- Folders are purely organizational — they group apps visually but do not affect who can see the apps inside them. Each app has its own visibility settings that determine whether a member can access it.
