Create from the + menu

Create from the + menu

The + button in the header is your shortcut to add anything new without leaving the page you’re on. From a single dropdown you can spin up a new program, post an announcement across spaces, or send a message into any channel. The menu is admin-only.

Open the menu

On desktop, click the + button in the top-left of the header, next to the logo.

On mobile, tap the floating + button in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

What you can create

The menu groups items into two sections — structure at the top, content below.

Space

Opens the program creation wizard at /s/wizard, where you choose a program type and configure your new space. See Create your first program for the full walkthrough.

Category

Adds a new sidebar category to group related programs together. Categories appear in your main sidebar above the programs they contain. See Organize your sidebar with folders and categories.

Activity

Opens the activity type picker. Choose a type — worksheet, lesson, check-in, task list, link, or embed — and the editor panel opens so you can build the activity. New activities are saved to your activity library and can be added to any program later. See Use the activity library.

Event

Opens the Create Event modal. The event can be assigned to any program that has the Events app installed. After saving, the event panel opens so you can review or edit details. See Create and manage events.

Message

Opens a compact message composer. Pick a channel from any program in the dropdown, type your message, and send. The composer supports the same rich text, attachments, and embeds as the full channel view.

After sending, click Go to Channel to jump into the conversation, or close the modal to stay where you were. See Use channels for discussion.

Post

Opens the New Post modal. Choose a feed from any program with the Feed app installed, write your post, and publish. After publishing, you’re taken to the post in its program. See Use the feed for announcements.

Disabled options

Some items only work when the matching app is installed in at least one program:

ItemRequires
EventEvents app installed in a program
MessageChannel app installed in a program
PostFeed app installed in a program

If none of your programs have the app, the option is grayed out. Add the app to a program from the program sidebar, then the option becomes available.

Keyboard shortcuts

Two shortcuts open the most common composers from anywhere in the app:

ShortcutAction
Ctrl+M (or Cmd+M on Mac)Open the message composer
Ctrl+P (or Cmd+P on Mac)Open the new post composer

Shortcuts only fire when:

  • You’re signed in as an admin
  • You’re not typing in an input, text area, or rich text editor
  • No modal is already open
  • The matching app exists in at least one program
