Allow your Clients to add posts, embed a video, upload pictures, open up discussion and create a poll. Build and develop your community inside upcoach with Forum Block.
You can use it to share one-time resources, announcements, and call recordings and have a Q&A section where your Clients can vote, write comments, like and help each other. You can also instruct your Clients to introduce themselves in a post to help them get to know each other.
How to add the Forum Block to a program?
To start with the community, go to the Program Designer and drag & drop the Forum Block into the Program page.
Forum Categories
Next, create and order categories inside the Block Settings sidebar.
How to lock the categories in the forum block?
In the Forum Block, you have the option to lock selected categories to the clients. This way, you can ensure that only coaches have the ability to create posts within these particular categories.
Utilizing the category locking feature, you have the flexibility to establish specialized channels such as an "announcement" section, a "knowledge-based" area, or even a "journal" section.
Locking the categories in the Forum Block is quite simple. Here is how:
To access the category locking feature, simply click on the gear icon located in the upper right corner of the forum block within your program.
To lock specific categories, click on the lock icon located next to the categories.
Title and Description
You can add a custom Title and a Description to your Block or hide them both from the Block.
Using the Forum Block
All the Program Members can add posts to the Forum Block and see, like, vote, and comment on the others' posts.
When creating a post, select the Category, add Title and then write the post content with any formatting you want.
The post's author can upload images, embed videos, or create a poll.
As an Admin, you can always delete any post to moderate the discussion inside the community. To do this, go to the post detail page, click on the three dots, and you can delete it.
In Client view, the Block will automatically show the most recent posts first, and if you click on "See all posts," it will open the detailed view of the Forum.
There, you can browse all posts, or you can again select based on Categories using the sidebar on the right side.
Mentioning the Member
How can I mention everyone in the program? @everyone
You may already be familiar with the concept of @mentioning – it’s generally how we “tag” someone on social media. This ensures people get a notification and know to look at your post.
@mentioning is also how we tag people in upcoach.
How to @mention an individual?
To @mention someone in a post, simply type the “at” sign (@) with no space after it, then begin typing the person’s name. (i.e., typing @Elon would suggest my full name you could then select). Once chosen from suggestions, the name should be written boldly.
How to @mention all program members?
You can also @mention all your program members, such as @everyone – this sends a post notification to every program member.
@everyone mentioning the entire program is a great way to make broad announcements, share FYIs, etc., where immediate action or response may not be the priority so much as communicating something.
⚠️ NOTE: Only coaches and admins can use the @everyone mention. This option is not visible to clients.
⚠️ NOTE: @everyone mention can only be used in the post itself, not in comments.
Schedule a Post
You can write multiple Forum Block posts in advance and easily schedule them to be published at particular times.
Go to the Forum Block in your program, and select the Category you want to share a post.
Enter your post.
Select Schedule, then the time picker will show up, and Publish button will be updated as Schedule.
Select the date and time for the publishing
And Schedule!
⚠️ NOTE: The post you create will be shared on the date you plan in your time zone.
Editing & Deleting the Scheduled Post
You can edit, delete, reschedule or share your scheduled post.
Polling on Forum Block
The Polling feature makes your program an even richer experience for your clients! Create, manage, and post real-time polls easily to keep your clients engaged with your program — no third-party tools required.
⚠️ NOTE: Both coaches and clients can create a poll.
To create a poll:
Go to the Forum Block in your program, and select the Category you want to include in a poll.
Enter your question and answer options. You can click Add option for up to five choices.
Select the Duration, and you can make a poll voteable at the following periods
1 Day
3 Days
1 Week
3 Weeks
Select Publish to share your poll with the entire community.
There we go! The poll is published and ready to vote.
⚠️ NOTE: The author can view the votes!
⚠️ NOTE 2: The author can add up to five answers.
As people in your community take the poll, the author will see real-time results in the Forum Block.
Forum Notifications
Although all your preferences on the Email notifications page are at the organization level, only Forum Block has an exception. We know that you have programs of different importance/priority, so we update the notification settings of the forum block to the program/forum level.
Setting these preferences is quite simple.
Go to Program Editor
Click on the Forum Block you added to your program
You can select the notification preference you want by scrolling through the notification settings from the selection screen on the left.
You have 3 different notification options:
Every Update: Every update by any user (client, coach, admin) will create notifications.
Good for small communities.Only Mentions and Followed Posts: Only mentions and followed posts will create notifications.
Good for large communities.No Notifications: No notifications from the forum.
